Easy Vodka Recipes: Simple Cocktails Anyone Can Make

Why Vodka Is the Ultimate Mixer

We’re lucky. Here at Cox’s & Evergreen Liquors, we’ve held rare, dusty bottles of bourbon in our hands, and tasted wines that cost more than our first car. Yet, for almost any occasion, from hosting a party to whipping up a Friday evening cocktail, we find ourselves turning back to an old faithful — vodka.

Clean, crisp, adaptable…vodka is truly one of the most versatile spirits. It can be sipped over ice, or more commonly, mixed with something. The beauty is that something can be endlessly tweaked and reinvented, and it can be simple.

We’re talking one ingredient. Yes, that simple.

Vodka and lemon soda? Done. Vodka and tonic water? Crisp and refreshing. Vodka and Coca-Cola? Look, even if it’s Pepsi, you’re good to go.

But what about when you want something slightly more elevated, more sophisticated, or more adventurous? Vodka pairs well with fruit juices, sodas, herbs, and coffee-based mixers. We happen to have a few favorites in our rotation that never disappoint, and we’re lining them up here because we love a good list. Especially when it’s vodka cocktail recipes.

Whether you’re hosting a party, prepping for the holidays, or just want a quick nightcap, these easy vodka cocktails are fast, fun, and delicious.

What Makes Vodka So Easy to Mix?

Vodka begins its life as humble starch — usually grains or potatoes — that’s crushed, mixed with warm water, and introduced to yeast. The yeast transforms the sugars into alcohol, which is then distilled (usually multiple times) to achieve vodka’s signature clarity and potency. Thought we were done? The process continues with filtration, usually with charcoal, then the vodka is blended with water until it reaches the desired proof. That, friends, is how vodka is made. Whew.

The result? A clean, elegant liquor that holds no resemblance to a potato.

For lots of folks, it’s a perk that most vodkas are sugar-free, making them ideal for low-calorie cocktails, or for anyone who needs to be aware of their sugar intake for health reasons.

Another perk is the range of vodkas available. At Cox’s & Evergreen Liquors, our selection spans from the best cheap vodkas to premium vodka brands (Think: Tito’s, Grey Goose, Ketel One, Absolut, etc.).

Crisp. Clean. Sugar-free. Cheap, mid-price, and premium options. Honestly, it’s no wonder vodka is one of our most popular liquors sold in stores and online, and one of our own favorites to use in easy cocktail recipes.

The 10 Best Easy Vodka Recipes

We hear it all the time from our customers. “What to mix with vodka?”. We usually smile, lean an elbow on the counter and say, “How much time do you have?”

Today, we’re keeping it straight forward with simple vodka recipes. It wasn’t easy narrowing it down to our top 10 favorites, and it got a little…competitive. But, like vodka, we’re keeping it crystal clear with simple ingredients, easy directions, and of course, our vodka recommendations.

Moscow Mule

Moscow mule recipes make us happy. Why? Refreshing and crisp, with a burst of bright lime. They’re the workhorse of every party and every family gathering, when someone wants a cocktail but you don’t want to overthink it. “Aunt Rose, I’ll make you a Moscow Mule.” They’re also endlessly forgiving, so don’t worry too much about the ratios below and give it your best shot.

Cosmo Martini

Cranberry cocktails are our go-to for the holidays. A sprig of rosemary? It’s basically a Christmas tree in a glass. We also love a good Cosmopolitan (Cosmo when you’re friendly enough for nicknames) because it tastes sophisticated, like it took way more time to make than the 30 seconds in this recipe. Use a mid-range vodka like ___ for this recipe, to preserve the clean taste.

*You can also easily make this into a delicious vodka batched cocktail: Cheers to Inspired Taste for an excellent batch version of the recipe: “To make a pitcher that serves 4, you will need 1 cup (8oz) vodka, 1/4 cup (2oz) Triple Sec or Cointreau, 6 tablespoons (3oz) cranberry juice, and 2 tablespoons (1oz) lime juice.” (Credit: Inspired Taste).

Sex on the Beach

We didn’t name it. We just drink it. Fruity and fun.

Sex on the Beach Recipe:

Screwdriver

This is literally vodka and orange juice. As simple as it gets, and a forever classic for brunches. Feel free to get creative — we like blood orange or pineapple juice for a twist, or you can top this easy orange and vodka drink with a splash of club soda to lighten it up with a little fizz.

Screwdriver Recipe:

Lemon Drop Shot

These are crowd pleasers. Tart, sweet, and just…fun. We love a mid-price vodka for this one since it’s the star of the show. Think: Tito’s, Smirnoff, or Grey Goose. Our only rule for this lemon-candy-like cocktail? Make sure all your ingredients are cold!

Lemon Drop Shot Recipe:

White Russian

Cozy and creamy, this is a classic cocktail for chilly evenings. Some folks add a splash of Coca-Cola and call it a Colorado Bulldog cocktail. We call both of these delicious drinks being *this* close to an adult milkshake.

White Russian Recipe:

Vodka Soda

Low-calorie vodka drinks are easy to make, and thanks to the flavor profiles in good vodka, they’re tasty too, and generally range in the 60-90 calorie range.

Cranberry Vodka Spritz

It’s pink, it’s light, it’s a touch sweet and fruity, but still crisp and refreshing. We love a cranberry vodka spritz for the holiday season, because you can garnish it festively (with a rosemary sprig, “frosty” sugar rim, or cinnamon stick) and it still takes less than a minute to make.

Frozen Fruit Blender Cocktail

Welcome to your easiest summer cocktail. Make one for yourself, or whip up batch cocktails and store them in the freezer during your party — vodka won’t freeze entirely, so just stir or scrape with a fork to loosen the drink and enjoy.

Classic Martini or Dirty Martini

It’s cool, casually sophisticated, and darn good to sip. If a classic martini isn’t the first thing in your mind when you think “what to mix with vodka?” — we’ve got a simple martini recipe that works every time. Can you alter this a million ways? Of course. Will your friends go to battle over “shaken vs. stirred”? Depends on who your friends are. Either way, you can sit back and relax with a delicious martini in your hand.

Tips for Perfecting Your Vodka Drinks

When it comes to crafting an exceptional vodka cocktail at home, small choices make a surprising difference.

A simple cocktail shaker set will reward you with the best mixing results. It doesn’t need to be fancy — just something that feels comfortable to shake confidently.

We keep hearing about “quiet luxury.” If there was a quiet luxury detail in the cocktail world, it’s fresh juice. Either real citrus squeezed from lemons, limes, or oranges, or 100% cranberry juice (avoid the sugared-up versions…just check your label). There’s no better way to make a simple vodka cocktail recipe taste elevated than real ingredients.

Chill your glassware. We always keep two glasses in the freezer. It makes a world of difference for a drink that’s meant to be cold, and it adds a thoughtful touch. Extra credit for any of you who use crushed ice for presentation. We all know it’s prettier. It’s okay to lean into it.

Pro Tip from Cox’s & Evergreen Liquors: Pair flavored vodkas (like lemon, vanilla, or cherry) with matching mixers. This builds layers of flavor and depth, without creating an extra step for you. Feeling adventurous? Kick up the recipe level a notch with these slightly more complex, but still totally doable vodka cocktail recipes from Food52.

‘Tis the season for holiday hosting, and we highly recommend having a few vodkas on hand for different roles.

Here’s just a few of our favorites:

Best Vodka for Sipping: Grey Goose. Only distilled once, with not a single additive or sweetener. It’s high end, but it’s worth it. Also a fantastic canvas for martinis or cosmos, when the vodka needs to shine.

Best Vodka for Martinis: Stolichnaya. Why? Stoli can hold its own in the gin vs. vodka debate, because unlike some other vodkas, it carries a light herbal, almost botanical scent and flavor. It’s fresh and delicate, and adds a nice layer of interest to a martini.

Best Cheap Vodka for Mixing: Svedka. Affordable, clean, and smooth. We love it.

Best Overall Vodka: Belvedere. It’s a workhorse. Delicious enough to sip, affordable enough to mix, and tastes more expensive than it costs. Made in Poland, for a fun fact.

At Cox’s & Evergreen Liquors we stand behind our recommendations and stock a wide selection for every taste, budget, and cocktail recipe. You’re always welcome to ask us about our best affordable vodkas, and we can also lead you to the right aisle (or give us a call for online shipping) and we’ll recommend a high-quality sipping vodka. Happy sipping, happy mixing — cheers!
